The Dutch cabinet has decided to abolish the scheme for foreign investors and high net worth individual in the second half of 2021. This is because the scheme is hardly used. And the cabinet does not want to relax the rules to such an extent that it can no longer be guaranteed that the scheme will not be misued.
Since 2013, it has been possible for foreign investors and#mce_temp_url# high net worth individual to obtain a residence permit in the Netherlands. A minimum investment of € 1.25 million must be made. The scheme has never been popular in the Netherlands. Since the entry into force of this scheme, approximately 10 to 20 applications have been accepted. Similar arrangements are more popular in other European states. In the Netherlands, many other conditions were set in addition to the high investment of 1.25 million. This was mainly intended to prevent abuse. The scheme was relaxed last year. That was to see if the scheme would become more popular. That turned out not to be the case. It has now been decided to abolish the scheme. Click here for the letter from the cabinet (Dutch).
