Start-up visa: change as of 1 January 2016

A start-up visa is issued for one year and can not be extended. After this year the start-up must apply for a permit to work as an entrepreneur. The application to work as an independent entrepreneur is assessed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs on a point based system. Most foreigners do not score enough points to qualify for this permit. This assessment for foreigners who were holder of a start-up visa will change as of 1 January 2016. If the facilitator of the start-up declares that the start-up has under its guidance that year performed to its satisfaction, the Ministry of Economic Affairs will issue a positive advice tot he Immigration Service and the foreigner will receive the permit to work as an entrepreneur. The Secretary of State informed the Dutch Parliament of this amendment by letter of 14 December 2015.
